Craft Beer’s New “Seal Of Independence”

, Craft Beer’s New “Seal Of Independence”In an effort to stem the confusion spawned by Big Beer’s acquisition of former craft beer brands and to help guide craft beer lovers to brewers who remain truly independent, the Brewers Association has designed and is launching a brand new seal that craft breweries can incorporate into their labels.

This new seal, which features a beer bottle flipped upside down (a clever visual allusion to craft beer having upended the beer biz), will be available free of charge.

And the more than 5,300 small and independent American craft brewers can use it, assuming they have a valid TTB Brewer’s Notice, meet the BA’s craft brewer definition and sign a license agreement.

The BA’s new “seal of independence” is an idea whose time has truly come. Big Beer’s ongoing effort to dilute the distinction between mass-brewed and craft beer is becoming increasingly effective and it’s only going to accelerate.

In the spirit of true transparency and the independence that defines our industry, American Craft Beer applauds this new initiative by the Brewers Association and we look forward to its implementation in the weeks to come.
