7 characters who give craft beer drinkers a bad name

There's always one.

JOE

Brought to you by Dunnes Stores.

We all have at least one friend who’s on this list.

Craft beer has exploded in recent years. We have more choice than ever in pubs and beer lovers now approach an off-licence like a kid going into a sweet shop. What to choose, what to choose?

If you love craft beers, Dunnes Stores are currently offering €1 off a wide selection of 500ml bottles. This offer is even better if you avail of their amazing Shop & Save promotion, which gives you €10 off if you’re spending €50 on groceries.

Most of us enjoy sampling different brews but there are always a few characters who give craft beer drinkers a bad name. We’re sure you’ll recognise a few people in the following list!

1. The “inb4” person

characters who give craft beer drinkers a bad name

They’ll claim that they drank craft beer long before it became popular, and definitely long before all these other plebs started doing it. Just don’t ask where they sourced this craft beer when it wasn’t widely available in pubs and shops.

2. The beer snob

The beer snob looks down on any beer that hasn’t been brewed in a leap year by blind Tibetan monks with hooks for hands. And they’ll only drink the monks’ special reserve brew, as anything else is just “common muck.” Especially whatever it is that you’re drinking.

3. The wine taster

We can all enjoy the flavour of a good craft beer. Still, there’s always one person who insists on telling you how they’re getting an aroma of shoe polish and the piquant bite of pine needles from their pint. That’s lovely, lad. Just drink your beer.

4. The IPA bore

Blah blah IPA blah blah blah IPA blah blah blah blah. We get it. You like IPA more than any other beer. That doesn’t mean it’s the only beer out there.

5. The craft beer hipster

They’re all about the “real” craft beer, which essentially means craft beers that nobody’s ever tasted. So craft beer can’t be craft beer if it’s popular. A night out inevitably descends into a philosophical discussion about whether success can change the essence of what something is.

6. The moaner

They insist on trying every beer in a pub on a night out and complaining loudly about each and every one. Have you ever thought about drinking wine, buddy? Because you obviously don’t like beer.

7. The bartender’s worst nightmare

You just want a pint from the bar but the person in front of you is busy trying to impress the barman with their knowledge. “Do you have any milk stouts, sour IPAs or chocolate-infused lagers?” There are 50 beers on tap, my friend. Just order one and keep it moving.

Craft beer lovers will be excited to hear that Dunnes Stores are offering €1 off a huge range of selected 500ml bottles of craft beer until 26 June 2017. So it’s a perfect time to call in and pick up your favourite craft beer, whether that’s a Galway Hooker, a refreshing Brehon Blonde or a Blacks of Kinsale KPA.

Please drink sensibly.
