Rumor Mill – Changes At Summit Brewing, Albert Einstein, Brewery Ommegang And More!

, Rumor Mill – Changes At Summit Brewing, Albert Einstein, Brewery Ommegang And More!Yikes…We’re well into June and things are only accelerating in the craft beer biz. But no worries, Rumor Mill remains on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

Summit Brewing’s Strategic Retreat Continues (St Paul, MN) – Maybe retreat is too strong a word, maybe realignment might be the more politically correct terminology. But whatever you call it, Minnesota’s second largest Summit Brewing, is backing away from its once 18 state distribution footprint.

Increased craft beer competition  (read flat sales) may have been a factor in the brewery pulling out of Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, New Jersey and Texas last year, and decisions to enter (or exit) a market are hardly unusual in the beer biz when the numbers don’t work.

And now Summit’s announced via their Where can I get a Summit? page, that due to challenges and recent changes to the industry that have made getting their beer to retailers increasingly difficult, they are ceasing distribution in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, and Michigan.

Words To Drink By (Princeton, NJ) – “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”  Albert Einstein, Theoretical physicist

, Rumor Mill – Changes At Summit Brewing, Albert Einstein, Brewery Ommegang And More!Demand For Craft Beer Grows In Denmark (Copenhagen) – Beer patterns are reportedly shifting away at the high end from big name imports to domestically produced specialty beers (i.e. craft beer). And mirroring a pattern we’ve seen it the states “Seasonal beer continued its positive performance in 2015 as this type of beer is particularly popular and well received by consumers during festive seasons.”

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Cooperstown, NY) – Last night we celebrated the imminent return of Game of Thrones (July 16th) with the latest GOT series collaboration from HBO and Brewery Ommegang. Mixing a malty richness with hints of citrus and honey sweetness, Bend The Knee Golden Ale is an 8.5% ABV Belgian-style brew, which comes bottled with three different labels, each one representing a different “house” from the epic fantasy.
