Northern Virginia Is For Beer Lovers (Centreville, VA) – The 10th annual Northern Virginia Brewfest returns to Bull Run Regional Park this weekend, for two days (June 24th-25th) of serious beer, music, food and fun. Emphasis at this year’s festival is on the region’s best summertime seasonals and with cutting-edge breweries like Mad Fox, Adroit Theory and Hardywood in attendance you’re almost guaranteed a brilliant time!
On The Big Screen – An endless parade of superheroes and unnecessary sequels, summer movies disappoint more times than they surprise. You could predict that Tom Cruise’s The Mummy would be a stinker, but who expected Wonder Woman to be such a fun ride? This weekend’s big movie opening is another sequel. And even though Transformers: The Last Knight stars Mark Wahlberg (who we always enjoy) this franchise may have outlived its welcome, so we’re not hopeful.
Summer Ale Throwdown (Chicago, IL) – One of the Windy City’s most fun hot weather beer events, the Chicago Summer Ale Fest, returns to the historic Grant Park this weekend. This year’s two-day celebration (June 23rd-24th) will feature more than 200 seasonal offering’s from over 100 of this country’s most exciting new breweries and it’s not to be missed! Yes there will be non-stop music and plenty of artisan food, but the beer the star here, so plan on coming early!
TV Time & Streaming – HBO has a reputation for uber-serious dramas like The Leftovers but it’s also home to some great satire – and if you’ve not yet caught up with Veep or Silicon Valley, you’re missing two of the best American comedies currently on TV.
Now in its sixth season, Veep stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as one-time Vice President Selina Meyer now out of office and desperately struggling to remain politically relevant.
Silicon Valley (now in its fourth season) remains a brilliant send-up of America’s nerdy technocracy that focuses on six young men who struggling to turn ideas into fame and wealth with predictably unpredictable results.
THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
With temperatures out East in the mid-90’s of late, we plan on keeping things sessionable this weekend – and Drakes Brewing has the perfect seasonal for that. Drake’s Kick Back IPA is a hoppy and aromatic 4.3% India Pale Ale that’s brewed to be paired with another.
