Twenty brewers walk into a bar. There’s no punchline, it's what a collection of Fort Collins craft brewers did Monday afternoon.

The group — technically competitors — were celebrating American Craft Beer Week by tapping and toasting four beers that they made together. They were shuttled around town by Magic Bus Tours.

“It’s sort of the spirit of Fort Collins beer,” said Joe Bowden, brewer at C.B. & Potts.

It was the seventh straight year that Fort Collins brewers collaborated in honor of the annual week-long craft beer celebration.

All four of the new beers — a hoppy amber lager, a witbier, a Belgian chaud blanc and an Americanized ESB — are on tap at D.C. Oakes Brewhouse & Eatery, 3581 E. Harmony Road, which will soon become the town’s newest craft brewery.

Each of beers are also on tap at where they were brewed. New Belgium, CooperSmith’s Pub & Brewing, McClellan’s Brewing and Gilded Goat Brewing hosted.

Fort Collins brewers toast a new collaboration beer at McCllelan's Brewing on Monday as part of American Craft Beer Week.

“You get different cooks in the kitchen,” said Peter Bouckaert, New Belgium’s brewmaster. “Everybody brings a little different input. It is always fun to put it all together.”

This year’s beers were created over a series of meetings. Each brewery operates on different equipment.

“You get so many different minds together and creativity explodes,” said Colin Westcott of Equinox Brewing. “It is fun to see what we can do together...Each beer is something completely different.”

Magic Bus Tours, which offers Fort Collins brewery tours, also shuttled the brewers around on the brew day.

Many Fort Collins brewers also now make an annual February retreat to Austin, Texas together.

“We are all good friends with each other,” Westcott said. “We like to celebrate our beers and our friendship.”
